Scratch was born in 2017 on a Catalan balcony after one too many jugs of sangria. Full of sunny optimism we were sure we could challenge the preconceptions in the demi-fine jewellery. Fine jewellery doesn’t need to be boring, we wanted personality. We’re a little bit cheeky and we’re unapologetically bold. The brand aim has always been to empower regardless of skin colour, shape or size. We believe if you like it, wear it.

We manufacture ethically with a focus on sustainability. Most of our metals are recycled silver and gold. We keep the scrap, everything, even the dust! We hail from Kentish Town, with a makers studio in Brixton.

Applying traditional goldsmithing techniques our work bears the mark of craftswomenship, with a modern and colourful aesthetic. For bespoke work, we also collaborate with other industry experts to make the piece of your dreams. Our silver and gold pieces are hallmarked at the London Assay Office and thoughtfully packed in plastic free packaging.

We're inspired water and the organic free flowing shapes we find in nature. We don't follow trends, we do what makes us happy and when. We are proud to be a slow fashion brand, encouraging sustainability and longevity.

Laura is the founder, designer and maker behind Scratch London. A creative career spanning over 20 years her experience has been gained in aviation, retail design, visual merchandising, photography and marketing.

“I came to jewellery in my mid 30’s. At times, I regret not following what I knew I wanted to do when I was much younger. But I’m grateful for all the other experience I gained that has allowed me to build a brand first and foremost”

As a child she was fascinated with how things worked and fitted together. The daughter of an RAF aircraft engineer, her first career was in the aviation industry, allowing her to develop technical skills and understand engineering.

Inspired by the natural word, organic found shapes prevalent in fauna and water, with a particular focus on granulation. Minimalism and simple, yet genius engineering found in Scandinavian design is a particular area of interest. Her homeland of Scotland is a source of inspiration, particularly the Inner Hebrides where her artist mother still lives.

Laura holds a BA in Photography & Graphic Design and two Diplomas from The University of Arts, London in jewellery design and manufacture.
